It is very good of Aaron to bring this issue to fore and expose the blatant stupidity behind it.

Unfortunately, the mainstream IT media is still slowly rising from their stupid position over the years where they went ahead with any and all nonsense spoken about Microsoft.

It’s that time of year again where we look at the hopes and dreams of the IT industry in the new year, crush the rhetoric and break it down into what will actually happen.

2012 should be really interesting because all eyes will be on this “post-PC” talk that will carry over into the new year, now that Microsoft will be equipped with the kind of operating systems that can power tablets and smartphones in a way that they previously sucked at pretty hard.  Sure, Windows Phone launched in 2010, but it has only been since Mango came to the party and Nokia and Samsung signed agreements to become mega-hardcore WinPhone hawkers that we will really see any sort of serious challenge to Android and iOS.  That war will finally get interesting.

There’s a wide spread of nonsense in IT at the moment too – so without further delay, let’s jump right in with two feet and talk about what is likely to happen in 2012:

Last second Christmas ideas for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners

We all know that buying Christmas gifts for the person that seems to already have everything can be hard, so we’ve decided to help.

In order to make this list useful, there are some glaring omissions. The biggest of them all is the massively popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Discarding the fact that I’m personally not a fan of the Call of Duty series, the reality is the fact that pretty much everyone who likes first person shooters already owns that game. You don’t want to be the one who buys someone something that they’ve already got, right?

Nintendo 3DS becomes fastest selling console in Australia

via techin5.com

Don’t worry folks. We’re just as confused as you are at this. It seems that Nintendo Australia today announced that the Nintendo 3DS has sold more than 200,000 copies of their latest mobile gaming console within Australia. This, according to Nintendo means that the 3DS (which has been largely considered a failure worldwide due to it’s inability to sell well) is the fastest console to hit the 200,000 sale figure mark, a feat it achieved in 37 weeks.

This of course makes us wonder how slow were other consoles such as the PSP, PS3 and Xbox 360 selling in Australia if they didn’t hit 200,000 sales in under 37 weeks. It of course boggles the mind that in Australia, the Nintendo 3DS is actually the fastest to hit 200,000 units. Ever.

Great gaming console deals in Australia for this Christmas

Image via asylum.co.uk

Hey there gamers.

I know at Christmas it can be hard trying to find the best deals – and most, if not all major shops will have a different deal going on for their gaming consoles around this time of year.

Well, I’m here today to list some of the best deals you can find for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS this year. If you were looking for this kind of help with your last second shopping, you’re in luck.

So let’s get to it!

Why the Wii U isn’t really “Next Gen”

Nintendo have recently (relatively) announced their next console – the Nintendo Wii U.

The Nintendo Wii was both a surprising and amazing success after launching in 2006, selling entering the year having sold 84.64 million units – a number so high that they are not really selling that well anymore is because everyone already freaking has one!). As a follow up console, Nintendo wanted to reach out to the people who (unless you loved Nintendo’s first-party games) haven’t really been looked after – or considered with this console, intentionally.

These people are the hardcore gamers.

On the Wii, there is probably about one or two games overall that would really appeal to this demographic (and that excludes the Call of Duty series on the Wii, as they suck).

The Playstation Network – hacked into a million pieces, fixed and yet still fragmented (BPOSOTY 2011)

When people look back on the hack of the PlayStation Network in the middle of this year, they are going to refer to it as one of the most epic and miserable failures of the common era in gaming. It was one thing for it to actually be hacked and taken down, but the fact that it was so poorly constructed and required a dramatic and frantic rebuild – causing over a month of downtime – is so utterly humiliating for Sony that I still cringe when I think of how bad the whole situation was.

Microsoft’s VideoSurf acquisition is a direct response to the rumoured Siri-powered Apple TV

The situation is as simple as this: you sit in front of your television and say “I want to watch a TV show that’s funny and was produced after 2005″ or “I want to see all videos of my friends and I at the beach”. Your television does a quick search, presents a bunch of relevant results and you begin watching.

That has been Microsoft‘s vision for years and it seems that with iOS and Siri, Apple will be able to pull off this vision first. That has got to make the Microsoft big-wigs really angry.

And so we have the news today of Microsoft’s acquisition of VideoSurf.

Despite the huge sales numbers, is Modern Warfare 3 a dud? There’s more negative news about this game

We all know the two big stories about this game – the first is that it is breaking all sorts of records for the amount of copies sold and that most dedicated gamers are underwhelmed by the lack of innovation in the online multiplayer and weaponry.

However, there’s a few extra stories about this game that seem to be flying under the radar. Here’s two things that have popped up recently that I thought were pretty interesting and worth a mention:
